Assuming their is a dead man's switch!!! Maybe...it is just a button and they are just pressing it down while throwing it? No, well why not?

Yeah, why not. But it does switch off once someone drops it. That would indicate there is a dead man's switch. If there is another switch to override it, is no argument against the possibilty of its existence.

Or...because it turns off when dropped, there is nobody to push the button.
