but I could never,
no one could ever make a certain argument that the IG would lose,

Modok hires a bunch of people to go and steal the Hypernova (supposedly the greatest energy source in the multiverse). They steal it after a while, and then it gets taken from them a bunch of times. Finally, Living Laser has the bright idea to try and absorb all the energy (when it opens). He apparently dies, but saves the world... I guess.
Eventually, as it turns out, that was a fake hypernova (as Modok tricked everyone), but he re-appears when the real one goes unstable in the middle of creating a Cosmic Cube, and says those lines.
I've been wondering about it for a while, and would like your opinion as you actually analyze things. I've broken it down a couple times, but still can't figure out why he would acquire such great powers for a fake... still very interesting though.
