Motorway "odd shoe" phenomena

Why does there always seem to be an odd shoe/trainer at the side of Motorways,dual carriageways and other roads.

Do people suddenly get the urge to throw a shoe out the window or what?

Ive seen this in various countries through out Europe, Morocco and even when I was in Saudi Arabia in the desert there were sandals on the motorway there. Whats the level of odd shoe appearance in the US?

Ok on the rare occasion there are also a pair of shoe´s as well, but mostly odd.

you see it quite a bit here. I believe we invented it.

Found the topic of "shoe tossing" at wikipedia maybe that has something to do with it🙂

That's not even a suprising thing in Brooklyn, Bronx, or Queens.

Some of the shoes, especially the trainers seem to be in good condition, why sling em out the window?

And on country roads or remote motorways, whats the point of throwing a shoe out the window?

Depends.

In the city (NY) it was used as a message. It would tell us "Crack" house near. That or a gangs territory.

Either or I viewed it as "watch the **** out".

Shoes hung like that usually indicate that a gang is in the area. Shoes (God knows why) are put there as a warning.

Don't know if you have this happen in the States, is all. 🙂
