Are there any good US Chat Shows?

Discuss in relation to the sheer amount of god-awful talk shows that are shown in the US.

Why are the guests always so disinterested? Why are the hosts questions always so drab? Why is there an element of variety in something that should be built upon the, dare I effin say it, chattin? Why no repore between host and guest?

Please, show me a decent US chat show.

(Understand, not a dig at the US, just I don't get why with the amount of promotion and stars on the circuit are they are, how they are).

Best talk show is Jay Leno followed by Dave Letterman.

Jay Leno's passable when I've seen it, daft jokes though. Letterman's not all that. I've never watched an interview on them where I truly felt that the host was interested in the guest however.

No US chat show host even approaches Jonathan Ross' level.

The only US chat show on television here is The Ellen Degeneres Show.
