But people cannot be forced to be educated. People can be fooled to vote for someone. There are levels f democracy though. In the Soviet Union there was democracy, they called it a people's democracy. And it's characteristic was that there was only one party to vote for.

We had restrictions in democracy in the past: only a certain elite could vote, then only men, later everyone.

But sometimes I see people in tv games or responding to political statements on the radio and theydo form a good argument against democracy... PLato wasn't too stupid in preferring a democratic elite to rule a country, but I'm sure sly people know how to abuse that power too. Guess we're screwed, no matter what. 😉

yes people can be forced to be educated. but it would only matter if it was unbiased education. if it has specific political agenda its pointless. but otherwise it is the perfect thing all countries need

You can obligate people to go to school... you can brainwash thenm with knowlegde.

And all education is biased in one way or another. I don't care even. I think it's important people learn to think for themselves.

And I am not so sure it's such a perfect thing. For one: you don't just implement it like that. we think bringing democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan solves matters. People seem to forget that it took like 150-200 years to have our democracies to the current level. It takes a long time, and even our democracy is tainted with bureaucracy and corruption. So how perfect is it?

I think every society gets the government they deserve. Democracy makes that solid though. But that would also mean you can't blame your government for everything they screw up: either you voted for them or you concede to the larger group that did vote for them.

All in all, the question is: does it make a difference or does it just change the way governmental thieves come to power?

We still have restrictions. We don't let anyone under 18 vote...and even later to be voted for.

The problem I see is that we sadly believe democracy to be the equivalent of freedom.

no not all knowledge is biased. mathematics has no political agenda 😉

but history can be, so it is necessary to put people through a screening process so teachers know that it has to be fact based and not taught with an agenda. believe it is possible to be objective, its just very very hard to be.

i have never said democracy is perfect, and there are many types of democracy that would work in other countries. i do NOT think ours is perfect and certainly would not work in many countries, Iraq included. now i believe a parliamentary democracy would work in iraq, much more than our system of direct democracy. it does make a difference, because laws can change, the way people think change. people have power in democracy, while under a dictatorship the people dont have jack shit. to say that it doesnt make a difference is ignorant and laughable.

democracy is not believed to be the equivalent of freedom, yet it does give the citizens MORE freedom. thats the distinction

Yeah, many do. Ironically, most of the diehard "patriots" that I know, who rag on me for not having more national pride, are opposed to the kinds of free market ideas that I present that would actually give us more freedom...the kind that humans deserve, imo.

Yes that makes sense. But things and laws change in dictatorships too: by death or a coup... With election sh!y going on I sometimes wonder what's worse... 😉

That's totally untrue. Many of the atheists viciously attack theists for what they believe. The line between "us" and "them" is just as clear.

Yeah, no atheist would call someone retarded or delusional for having a belief system . . .

I do agree with pretty much everything else though. Especially the "overly aggressive creatures would tend not to survive as much as those who are willing to work with one another" line.

i believe it was religous fanatics that were responsible for the KKK was it not, morals and what we believe to be right is are brain examining the world arround us seeing how our actions affect our world. and think about this some of the most evil men in history have been religious for instance hitler was religious, al kida (terrorists) are religious. and every christian i know has put me down for my beliefs, i may pick on them aswell but not because of their religions but because of they extremely obnoxious personalities. you refusing to believe that athiests have morals is completely bigoty.

religion has been an exscuse to commit terrible evils througout time.

if you had to choose, what would be your favored form of government?

Pure communism...or pure anarchy. basically, an ultra synergistic society in which government in any form isn't needed...something humans are incapable of at this time.
