Rekki quietly walked behind Jel-Kor, her eyes on the ground. She had a far off look that only the recollection of a memory would give a person.
She was only a child when her Maser turned to the dark side. He was always kind.. Not the type of Jedi to turn so easily. Yes, she loved her Master. She always was fond of him, ever since she was a little girl. He had pulled her aside after a long session of reading up on the lost temples of the sith. He had asked back then, if she would follow him. He asked her if she would remain by his side. Of course she agreed… But now she knew how lucky she had been. For if she would have refused, he would have taken her life to keep his secret.
Her memory moved forward several years. She had matured greatly, and longed for her Master to notice… But he never did. That didn’t bother her; he was still kind to her and gave her the attention she wanted… But it wasn’t the attention she longed for. Many times she would sit in his room studying, hoping to catch him before she fell asleep. Every now and then she would be lucky enough to be present when he returned for his duties as the Apprentice. He would smile and looked up at him eagerly as he passed; only getting a gentle hand on her head. But this simple touch was something she worshiped. He didn’t have to pay attention to her, she knew this now. So as he would pass on his way to the bath, she would smile and lean into his hand as he reach out to pat her. Normally he would continue on his way, but one time, a time she would play through her mind over and over again, he stopped and looked down at her. His smile made her melt. He would smile and his piercing blue eyes would soften. His hand would move from the top of her head to caress her cheek. She’d close her eyes and reach up to take his hand, but her fingers would only find her cheek. Her eyes would open, and he’d be gone.
She’d move on to the day before she left on this mission. His cold eyes held little to no emotion as he spoke. “You are sacrificing yourself for us, Rekki… Think long and hard about this if you ever find yourself doubting what you are to do… You may not come home.. But what you are doing, what you volunteered to do, will go down in history.” She nodded and smiled. “Yes Master… I will not faultier.” He added sharply to this. “Make sure you don’t. I did not train you for all these years to have you fail.” She bowed her head and looked at her feet. “I will not fail.” She forced a smile and looked up at him, her mouth opening to say goodbye… But he was gone.. That was when she realized he didn’t care.
She blinked, slowly coming back to reality. Her hand was gripping a charm on her necklace. ‘He will realize how wrong he was.. He will realize what is missing in his life when I am gone.. He has to.’

david passed behind a tree, searching for any local wildlife that might become part of his collection. he looked deep into tree hollows at insects hunting in the darkness for other insects. at small and large creatures as they passed, unnoticed by the others. all the while he kept a silent watch over reki, keeping his distance, but allowing himself to be known.
