Respect Sorceress Ultimecia

Ultimecia is often denounced for having no personality and no background. She is declared to be a one-dimensional villain inserted into Final Fantasy VIII at the last minute for the sole purpose of giving the heroes someone to fight against.

However, an often-forgotten fact is that Ultimecia is present in Final Fantasy VIII ever since the very first disk, and that her actions drive the entirety of the story ever since the beginning. Ultimecia operates in the first part of the game through another character: Edea, whom she is controlling. All of the character development in the first two discs that is thought to be attributed to Edea is actually development on the part of Ultimecia; in fact, many fans of Edea who fall in love with the cruel, icy demeanor she wears for the first two discs are actually becoming fans of Ultimecia. They simply don't realize it.

Ultimecia controls every word and every action from Edea from her first appearance in Timber until her second defeat in Galbadia Garden, and from her multiple speeches during this time, Ultimecia's true personality is revealed.

WTF are you talking about?! Quistis appeared, and was frozen. Ulti talked with Seifer, Squall and the others appeared, and were frozen too.

This is a respect thread to her character. Ultimecia is not just power. She took control of Galbadia Nation and could use it's resources. That's an impressive feat, and I think it's important.

Oh. I thought her second spell before she left was aimed at Quistis to un-freeze her. My mistake.

And Ultimecia begins the process of Time Compression. The heroes travel through time, fighting sorceresses from different eras, until they reach Ultimecia's Castle:

With the begin of Time Compression, Ultimecia was able to absorb the power of all sorceresses in history.

The Tutorial's description of Time Compression:
Time Compression - "A complete mystery. Various states of "present" are believed to become compressed. Sorceress' power from many generations may cross over to give 1 sorceress great strength. No one knows what effect this may have on regular human beings.

Information presented when using Scan on Ultimecia, during the final battle:
A sorceress trying to change the world by compressing time and taking power from all sorceresses.

She was damn powerful.

There may have been a "real" Griever that existed in stories that Squall had known about, but the only suggestion offered in-game is that it is a creature that Squall conceived of in his own mind, as Scan tells us that in Squall's mind, Griever is the strongest GF:

"Griever In Squall's mind, the strongest GF. Through Ultimecia's power, continues fighting without vanishing."

Further, Ultimecia's Witch Embodiment powers granted her the ability to reach into other's minds and pull things out(as she often displays when completely removing a character's stock of a certain type of Spell). In the case of Griever, she simply manifested the thoughts she pulled from Squall's mind regarding what he believed to be the most powerful being in existence. This would be a great strategical move on Ultimecia's part. This is made even more plausible when examining what the japanese version has Ultimecia say:

Ultimecia: Your feelings, I shall summon the most powerful of things
[from them]! The more strongly you feel, that will be what shall torment
you.

Another power she have, is to corrupt GFs/Summons and take control of them.:
