Charlton Heston Dies, Aged 84

Charlton Heston, who won a best actor Oscar for his starring role in the epic Ben-Hur, has died aged 84, a spokesman for his family has said.

Heston died on Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills. His wife Lydia, whom he married in 1944, was at his side.

Heston also portrayed Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the 1950s and 1960s.

He stepped down as president of US gun lobby, the National Rifle Association, in 2003, citing ill-health.

The previous year, he had revealed he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease.

He was a screen icon, as much can be said, and has many memorable roles to his name, some of the biggest hits of all time included. While he became quite a controversial figure considering the NRA, it is quite appropriate that people pay their respects to such a great actor and talent. Mon the Heston!

I guess Al Gore can get his gun now, and help reduce the exorbitant number of gun-related crimes in the US.

May he R.I.P. I like Charlton Heston's movies. He had a lot of classics. He is a true legend. Those damn dirty apes!

so has anyone tried taking his rifle yet?

Although i havent seen that many Heston movies as i should on the other hand i HAVE seen his performances in POTA and BENEATH the POTA countless times.
My first memory of being in a cinema was watching a double bill of the re released Ape pics in the 70s and since then i have been a collector of POTA and a huge fan of Heston in those two movies.
He owns the screen in the first Apes flick and i think its a truly great performance with BALLS and thats why the remake was always doomed to fail.
No current living actor could have taken on those damn dirty apes the way Heston did.
Heston was a mans man not like these pampered pussies your supposed to believe can throw a punch.(Harrison Ford accepted)

RIP CHUCK

I....would not say that. He was a good actor, maybe, but not one of the best. IMO.

whoa. i thought it was that playboy dude that died.

i sometimes get those 2 confused.

anyho, i liked him in the "planet of the apes", the one that came out in the early 70's with lady liberty at the end, which i watched for the 1st time ever last month.

He had funny lines in it. And i remember seeing him in a Micheal Moore Doc but other than that, r.i.p.

But all i really knew about the guy was that he was an actor famous for playing Moses and being the head of the NRA.

Who is Charlton Heston?

Charlton Heston was one of the greatest actors of our time. I loved him in The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, Soylent Green and The Omega Man
