He looks way more cooler and detailed than last time. And with that belt, he definitely looks like the champ. lol

Pretty much, haha. The force will most likely be dumbed down to generic grab, or profound push! Like using Superman in a video game, haha: "He has a lifebar?!"
marvel vs capcom and tatsunoko vs capcom are examples
Here's a much a higher resolution:

I think something more shaolin would have been nice.. but of course spruced up to fit in with the MK world
I really like how they did his hair though.. I think thats the only thing un-typical about this design
Originally posted by SaTsuJiNDitto. Kang's always was a generic bastard. It's like "We're making a fighting game. Any ideas for the hero?" "Asian. He's got to be asian!" "What about a headband?" "Nah. Save that for the sequel"

like most of the pieces are simple, yet nice.. and then you have the tacky dragon logo beltI think something more shaolin would have been nice.. but of course spruced up to fit in with the MK world
Kang sux.
Liu Kang is in no ways generic. For a character who's based on Bruce Lee, he at least got some unique features that makes him cool and stand out more from the other Bruce Lee designs.
At least his design isn't like Mr. "Hey, let's make a ripoff of Kenshiro but give him a Karate Champ look so nobody will notice our unoriginality."
Then later:
"Hey, now since we're making a sequal, let's ripoff Kenshiro even more by giving our hero his outfit." "Nah, because that would make it too obvious. Let's keep his Karate Champ look".
😂 Wrong as humanly possible though. Karate Champ guys have ripped sleeves? Ryu's seems mostly based on some karate guy that fought some muay thai dude that Sagat looks like. Look it up. I'm not good @remembering names. I don't see a Kenshiro(FOTNStar?) connection @all. Fail. 😄
Let's keep this about MK though. There's other threads to discuss Ryu in if you look for them. Besides, dissing Ryu won't change that Kang's a mediocre hero( usually results in a mediocre series) who's never been involved in anything awesome except for that time he got his neck broken.
Like ripped sleeves is really gonna make much of a difference in designs, huh? And yeah, I know about the fight you're referring to. It still doesn't change the fact that Kenshiro has some undeniable influence on Ryu. And you mean you seriously don't see it? The abilities? The personality? The fighting style? Ryu's early SF2 design? Heck, even the SF2 commercial? 🤨
And hey, we're still keeping it MK here. At little comparison won't hurt it. Call Liu Kang mediocre if you want (even though I don't see how), it still doesn't change the fact that he at least has some originality to him.
I thought Ryu was based off of that korean guy who hid his identity and pretended to be a japanese? (he did all of that wierd stuff like training in the wilderness alone, and became super leet)
I hope Liu has a 2nd completely different outfit hehe..
but then again, my MK fave is sub-zero.. and I dont like his outfit either

the Ryu character is based on the real life events of Yoshiji Soeno, who was a practitioner of kyokushinkai karate under Masutatsu Oyama

but.. to me ryu is closer to Oyama.. but japs dont want to admit that a korean inspired their precious jap character
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masutatsu_Oyama
After the end of World War II, he studied shotokan karate and various other styles of martial arts, training alone on Mt. Minoubu in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It was said that he shaved one of his eyebrows so he would not leave the mountains. He stayed in the mountain for a total of 14 months and was forced to leave after his sponsor had stopped supporting him. Months later, after he had won the Karate Section of Japanese National Martial Arts Championships, he was distraught that he had not reached his original goal to train in the mountains for three years, so he went into solitude again, this time on Mt. Kiyosumi and he trained there for 18 months. Although many of Oyama's followers repeat the story of Oyama's training alone in the mountains, Oyama apparently never confirmed whether this story was true or not.
In 1953, Oyama opened his own karate dojo, named "Oyama Dojo," in Tokyo but continued to travel around Japan and the world giving martial arts demonstrations, including the fighting and killing of live bulls with his bare hands. His dojo was first located outside in an empty lot, but eventually moved into a ballet school in 1956. Oyama's own curriculum soon developed a reputation as a tough, intense, hard-hitting, but practical style, which was finally named "kyokushin" in a ceremony 1957. He also developed a reputation for being "rough" with his students, often injuring them, during training sessions.
Ryu is based of Oyama which is why his early fighting styles was Kyokushin Karate, but there were early references to Hokuto no ken for some old designs that weren't even used. Also, the only similarity between Karate champ and Street Fighter are Gi's. I never knew wearing Gi's was considered original, especially when creating a Karate-Ka based character.

At the same time, you can't help but notice that the 1p character wears a white karate-gi and the 2ndp character wears a red one.

I definitely notice that and I do believe Karate Champ influenced the two player mode of the first Street Fighter in terms of design. But, the similarities roughly end there.
