Sidious vs. Yoda/Mace- Conclusion/rematch?

Goody ^^. Yeah, 6/10 seems to be very reasonable- maybe 5 out of 10, it depends.

Damn it. I want to see Sidious vs. Mace rematch when both use their actual powers rather than the fancy- albeit slow- duel in the movie. It'll be very interesting.

Also note, I'm not doubting that Mace's lightsaber skills compare with Sidious', just that Sidious' mastery of the force is greater. And as we all know, for an old-timer like Sidious, using the force in order to reach inhuman power levels is essential.

Yup, McDiarmid was obiviously exaggerrating, but Sidious IS fast. XD

Even 500 times faster than ANH Obi-Wan would be too fast... lol...

hey dnt put down ANH Obi-Wan.. hes the character that made the term Jedi famous. hes the first jedi we ever saw, and for most people the first picture that comes to mind when they think of the term "Jedi"..

Also back in those days they saw that fight between Obi-Wan and Vader as this titanic battle of good vs. evil. Its only nowadays with CGI and the prequels that people say their fight was slow and awful, becuase ones an old man and the other a cripple!

btw Mace and Sidious wernt exactly much faster in their duel. apart from when Sidious spins around using CGI effects.

Sidious' speed levels change from slow, to medium-speed, to extremely fast during the duel- from 0:56-1:01, Sidious was attacking extremely fast... but yeah, I agree, I'm not dissing Obi-Wan or anything ^_^. It's also why Sidious vs. Yoda was so short... the attention needed to be focused on Obi-Wan vs. Anakin, and since Yoda and Sidious are that much more powerful, having them fight in a long duel will make Obi-Wan v. Anakin look weak.

Thing is... it wasn't exactly CGI, it was bad chareography and fragile lightsaber models. Note how ESB and RotJ duels are a lot faster, actually comparable to duels like Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon vs. Maul.

Obi-Wan is a great character, but in the prequels and in the OT. Personally, I feel that both the OT and Prequel trilogy are equal, just different sorts of stuff... Prequels are darker, fights more intense, while OT just has a very big heart. That's why people fell in love with it.

Mace fought extremely slowly, tho, I agree with you... that really disappointed me, as Vaapad is supposed to be one of the fastest offensive styles.

Oh well. At least the novelization fixed that up.

That was a good argument, but I have to personally disagree with some of the the points you have made here.

I basically almost completely agree with your assessments of the first part of the fight, and the subsequent saberfight. However, in the saber fight, if you turn up the volume and listen closely to the portion of the fight before the second saberlock, you can hear Yoda grunting. I think they were dead evenly matched in the swordfight; as you can see, Yoda had evident difficulty, as did Sidious. Also note that Sidious was the one on the offensive, while Yoda's style is equally aggressive (Ataru), at least during the fight on the pod.

The 'here, catch' part was basically Sidious utilizing Dun Moch to frighten Yoda, who seemed rather overwhelmed, and potentially hit him. Afterwards, Yoda needs to concentrate highly in order to catch the pod and spin it at Sidious, who, in his overconfidence, forgot to look for Yoda. The pod's added effect was spinning; it moved no faster than Sidious' pods, maybe even slightly slower.

Sidious' expression was an expression I'd like to call "Wtf"? He didn't see Yoda temporarily, so when he saw him, his instinctive reaction was to attack him with lightning. Yoda, at the beginning, was somewhat overwhelmed, and Sidious seemed very happy... until Yoda started pushing him back. The lightning ball reached something close to the middle, and Sidious, realizing what will happen, increased the intensity of the lightning, causing the ball to explode, and leaning back in his attempts to avoid the lightning. Yoda got the worst end of the attack, but if the fight had continued, it could have gone either way. As I've stated, they're equals, but Sidious seems to be the smarter and more tactical fighter- he also wields the destructive power of the dark side. Thus, he has a slight edge.
