It doesn't really make any sense, Mangog only has one purpose of his existence, which is to wipe out Odin.

He is a brute, not an idiot. Despite his uncanny showings in Tears for the fallen, Mangog is a magician as well.

Thanos wins. Mangog fell prey to a Thanos clone. Thanos is smarter than Thor and Thor beat Mangog with an anti-force blast in his mouth. Thanos is stronger, versatile, durable and for the most part has better energy attacks. Thanos could hold his own physically better than Thor, and he will sooner figure out to exploit Mangog's insides than Thor did.
