Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
It was their 16 bit model.
It was out from 1991 in competition with Sega's Megadrive/Genesis and was the best console on earth until the Playstation's Arrival in 1994-1995. Its more famous games would be Super Mario IV, Streetfighter II, Mario Kart, Final Fight, and of course the Indy Trilogy and Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back, and Super Return of the Jedi. .
Quick....! Pulg in your irony detector.....
You missed one.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Thats not like you......
Hmmmmm.....Who are you and what have you done with the REAL Queeq...? 😖hifty:
If I have a real gripe as opposed to the mock one just now, its that while we have the genius of GTA and other classics, the tendancy to automatically make everything 3d engine based is a mistake.
Witness what they did to Sonic the Hedgehog and Shinobi: Two beloved classics right off of the top of my head that didnt work as well in 3d....yet there they went. 🙁
Ultimate Ghouls n Ghosts was a good approach though: It recognised that the 2d scrolling formula was essential to the game and used 3d rendered "sprites", and rendered the backgrounds in 3d, but the gameplay was fundimentally the same 2d style scrolling action that we call Ghouls'n'ghosts, baby.
Oh yeah I agree that many games suck. I like firt person shooters and guess which game I still like most? Black Hawk Down... the game's bleeding six years old but the gameplay is still quite unsurpassed. And many play it online still.
I agree a lot of effort goes into making engines and photo realistism. For some reason they forget you still have to play...
It's a bit like SW: the better the technology the more they forget the story... or in this case: the game.
Good analogy.
Thats it.
Its like the newer games lack 'soul' for want of a better word.
Even a wall that was drawn by an artist, when rendered in 3d distorts as it rotates along its various axis. (All computer made calculations)
Back in the day, with side scrollers, the artistry scrolled along left to right and retained its form. Sonic, Mario, Strider, The shinobi games, Ghouls N Ghosts (all of the GNG series for that matter), Gunhed, The Contra series, The Thunderforce series, Final Fight and all that other Capcom stuff, R-Type, Ninja Spirit, The old Robocop arcade, even the cartoonier looks of earlier games like Double Dragon, Dragon Ninja... they all had that thing that modern games lack.
Too much shine too little guts.
