Well, I saw the deleted scene... didn't add much. I think a Jedi Purge should have been maybe a movie by itself, with OB1 trying to turn Anakin back.

EPII - Clone Wars and fall of Anakin ( and better make him fall for something substantial other than the fear to lose someone in death and become a killer himself... yuck)

EPIII - Purge and the Attempt to turn Anakin back to the Light Side.

That's sort of the hints that the OT gave me what it was supposed to look like.

Yeah we all felt it should be that way cause of the OT legend like you say, hence the Patton Oswalt like reaction of mystified horror that it bestowed upon us in reality.
