Theres no way to replicate the many subtle and not-so-subtle things that made the original a classic without making an outright and therefore utterly pointless remake.

Even the most 'wrong' wrong is still a part of the rightness.
They cannot improve on it.

The problem will certainly be if they try to make it good.
