Who performed magic late in life?

Was it maybe Dumbledore's sister since no one expected for her to do magic? It fits in what JKR told us, with it being desperate measures as her brothers were dueling with a genius wizard.

JK said that that was a plot line that she had talked about doing in book seven, but she ended up not putting it in.
