why didnt empire make more money?

The Empire Strikes Back got many mixed reviews when it was first released. In some cases, major critics ate it alive!

I think with time it aged to be one of the best. Maybe the Prequels will be treated with more respect after some time passes.

Naw the prequals will NEVER be treated with the same respect the original trilogy has gotten even as years pass by.Lucas lost his magic for great story telling right after Empire Strikes Back and never regained it.anyways as for the question,like someone said,Empire was battling history back then that sequals are never as good as the original movie is,plus when A New Hope had been released,it was a one of a kind magical movie experience nobody had ever witnessed before where when Empire came out,they werent quite as impressed since they were already used to the amazing special effects from A New Hope.A New Hope was more exciting and had a happier ending so that had something to do with it.Empire left too many questions unanswered and moviegoers unsatisfied.

But it all worked out in the end. ESB rules!
