Common Themes In Both Burton and Nolan Flicks Thus Far

Did anyone else notice a few patterns? I noticed that the first movie kind of established Batman as a hero in Gotham where as in the second movies

Batman has a fall from grace where he becomes a murderer in the eyes of some Gothamites, the Batmobile gets obliterated and in the end

I just noticed despite the obvious difference in quality and superb storytelling in the Nolan universe vs the Burton Batman universe there are some common threads going on in the progression of both series. Did anyone else notice any other things?

I noticed that in both movies, Joker wanted control of the mob bosses. Both had meetings where bosses were around the table and joker came with a proposition to take over.

Also, theres the scene in 89 Batman where bats in in the batwing and hes coming right for joker, and jokers standing there saying "c'mon you gruesome sunnava *****....." Then in TDK, almost the exact same scene happened when bats was on the batcycle.

Thats all i can think of at the moment.

Also 89 was supposed to set up 2 face as the next villain. Of course we know that didn't work out.

And in a funny note, the new Joker makes light of an oft-used insult about Batman 89 :

"You didn't think my big plan was to fist-fight you at the top of a buidling, did you?"

I almost did a spit-take on that one.

I caught that too Sith Saber I thought that was definitely a jab at the 1989 movie which I didn't mind at all and that last scene of Batman saving the Joker with his grappling gun instead of him dying because he was grappled to a gargoyle like in 1989 I also thought was done for similar reasons.

Yeah, when Joker was saved by the grapple gun I was all like "oh shit, they took a shot at B89"... But it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the movie at all...

And I noticed a few of those in the movie... But I think some of those are just cliches of the genre (redemption, fall from grace, etc.) I mean, even Spider-Man's movies had them...

I just thought it was funny both Batmobiles got wrecked in the second film too. Also I wish Vicki Vale had gotten the Rachel Dawes treatment too.

Burton wanted to kill off Vicki Vale in B89, but the producers didn't want the movie to be "too dark"

I always knew I liked Tim Burton. And really I think a lot of studio execs back in the day more so than Tim Burton were the reason that we never got Batman movies on par with what we are getting now.

I noticed some common themes too. All very subtle but there nonethe less.

-Theres the obvious Joker in the street wanting Batman to hit him
-The "You didn't think I was gonna fist fight you at the top of a building" thing I just realized in this thread.
-In '89 Joker kills a mobster with a feather pen and says "The pen is truly mightier than the sword" In Dark Knight Joker uses a Pencil.
-Mobsters all gathered at table and Joker introduces himself to them
-Balloons. In Dark Knight a plane flys overhead to catch the flashing balloon with Lau and Batman attached to it. Balloons were also caught using a plane in '89.

batmobile/tumbler coming apart and Batman shooting out in a sleek slim bat torpedo/batpod whatever.

Also in Batman Begins, he used bats to confuse the cops and cause mayhem...similar to the scene in Batman Returns when all the bats were terrorizing the crowd.

No "Bob? Gun. BANG!" though. I guess he shot a lot of his own crew in this one but I miss Bob. 😛

guess these arne't really "themes" per say, but just similar action/plot scenes.

uh Batman wasnt a hero in Batman 89,he was cowardly murderer who should have been arrested at the end instead of treated like a damn hero. 🙄 deal with it.
