I thought the same thing and concluded one of two things:
1. They talked outside of KMC on another social medium that constituted a PM.
2. He did not really have him on ignore and was ignoring him without having to use the ignore feature until he wanted to read a PM.
The former turns out to be the truth.
In the end, did it matter? Nope. Only that they resolved things.
