Shien is the most adept blaster deflect form, indeed.

Shien is a more efficient counter to blaster shots, but Soresu was originally brought to life for that purpose. Soresu maximizes defense over offense, which makes it a useful counter-blaster form. Shien is better if you want to deflect rounds though. The reason Soresu was the original blaster form was because the Jedi would battle in a way that made him expose minimal target area. Then by working with tight, efficient moves, he could easily deflect blasters. The more they battled blaster shots, the more comfortable they became and the more efficient became the Shien form.
If a battalion of droids came my way, I'd rather have Shien.
