help?

Well i plan on purchasing a PS3 this upcoming months, I finally organized my life and have spending money and well i want to play mgs4, but i'm not sure my familiy's tv model is 1080p. Is it true that blu-ray outputs in only 1080p? and does anyone know if a philips hdtv model no. 60PP920/17F is 1080p? i doubt it but i would hate to buy a ps3 and not be able to watch blu-ray. can anyone help? i've googled both topics but can't find a straight answer.

Blu-ray will output in less than 1080p.

(and speaking of 1080p, a lot of PS3 games will not even output at that or are upscaled to that resolution).
