Suspense movies: How many times have you watched it end up being a bad GAL?

The criminal almost always ends up being male, and the idiots usually give that fact away during the first few minutes anyway.

Which movies have you watched where it's a female criminal?

you mean as in "whodunnit" type movies?....or are you just looking for female evil lead characters in general?

if it's the later it's got to be Kathy Bates as "Annie Wilkes" in "misery"

Fair enough...and true. But the 'whodunit' movies always show [e.g.] the 'guy's' feet at the beginning while he's laughing and such; cuts the possibilities down to 50% don't you think?

"Along Came A Spider" was a neat one.

Along Came a Spider was obvious to me because of the spider part of the title. For some reason I have always thought Spider = Female aspects in metaphor.

Scream 2 had a woman killer at the end. Men's style shoes/boots used in parts where she was the killer, easy enough for a woman to wear such style shoes.

That's EXACTLY one of the things that baffles me. They almost always have size 12 Doc.'s. Sure...could be a woman, but almost never is.

'Se7en' [one of the better suspense/thrillers out there imo], and they KEPT REFERRING TO THE CRIMINAL as a male; right from the beginning.

Another thing: who has had the least screen time...probably the criminal. [POSSIBLE SPOILER] I was watching that recent Casey Affleck movie, 'Gone Baby Gone' or something. My partner smiled about 50 minutes into it and she said, 'Who haven't they shown forever?' And sure enough...it was Morgan Freeman.[END SPOILER]

I can't even think of another one with a woman as blah blah...

The best suspense movie with a female antagonist is the French film, Inside.

And the 2nd half of Audition.

Gooood movie. Forgot about that one. Thought it was a bit slow at parts, but gooood movie. But notice how it wasn't exactly main stream in N.America; or even here for that matter.

I don't think Inside has even been released here in the UK in any form except festivals, that's why I got the Region 1 uncut, would have got the French edition, has a better cover and 2 discs, but no subtitles apparently.

Got it in exactly that, a festival, here in Italy earlier this month. As 'À l'intérieur'. Little slow in the middle-ish, but all sorts of crazy! 😱

Most popular is Pamela Voorhees. Then there is May from the film of the same name...and of course Audition.

There are quite a lot. In most Giallo films occasionally the murderer is a female. Such as the case with one of Dario Argento's film (which shall remain secret to avoid spoiling the plot and the ending)

There are three types of female criminals:

The B-i-t-c-h.

The Seductress.

The Geeky.

Rarely do you see the Air head getting the criminal part....except in a Porn film.

I'm quite sure I know which one you're referring to. But do you notice that most, not all 20-year-olds, but many (Lord, that was a while back) just watching a good suspense flick like

are going to figure out it's a guy half-way through. They don't really want to dig into the bucket or look outside Hollywood to find brain-pounding movies like the ones we're mentioning. And I would think the scriptwriters would have to do little to remove, or at least cover up the possible giveaways. That brings me to the point about scriptwriters and scripts based on books etc., but in a bit...

...except in a Porn film.

Okay, movies like

Fight Club and Sixth Sense...you just end up with your jaw-dropping at the end because in both, the 'narrative' and story lead to an incident involving males. Fine, but...

what about movies like 'Matchstick Men'?

Isn't it pretty obvious whether the antagonist is male/female just from the attitudes a third of the way in? Why make it so obvious?

I just think obvious things can be done to confuse the viewers. I'll tell you what. How about you think of a movie you figured out where the antagonist was a male [spoilers obviously huh MildPossession? 🙂] and suggest how easily they could have made it more effective.
