Torch #1 Variant

Avengers/Invaders #12 :

Torch fights and is killed by an enraged, and slightly confused thor, who is fighting for adolph hitler:

he's resurrected in the same issue here by the cosmic cube(he is still currently dead):

torch is a beast, but not unexpectedly, thor going all out proved too much to handle(hammond simply lacks the durability to take attacks of that caliber)........still, i'd like to point back to a time where hammond blocked that same god lightning which ended him with a fireball:

anyway, toro, torch's flaming sidekick, also resurrects into modern marvel continuity here, which sets the stage for torch's return in Torch #1, which involves toro and the mad thinker:

Captain America #423 :

Jim Hammond fights namor. ironically, this is the only time hammond's flame is actually shown to have a dehydrating effect on him:

Avengers Annual #21:

turns out Kang is indirectly responsible for Jim Hammond's creation

The Official Handbook of The Marvel Universe Volume 3 Master Edition:

Hammond puts namor to shame in the golden age

I just decided to show these torch/namor encounters from the golden age...........being a huge fan of namor i had previously declared these too disgraceful on his behalf to be shown, back when i was showing golden age feats......but this is the hammond respect thread, not namor's, so here goes nothin:

Torch boils namor.....namor runs

Torch whoops namor in a hand to hand fight after namor begs him to "give him a chance" and not use flame

Torch burns namor.......namor runs

Namor begs hammond for his life on both knees........according to namor, "Ceasar had his Brutus, Napolean had his Waterloo, and I have, The Torch"

there, it's done.......forgive me namor.lol

yeah. been dead since 2005, New Invaders #9, but he ressurects in Torch #1 by Alex Ross/Mike Carey in september.

he's appeared in a few other titles recently though, and will be appearing in a few more before his mini:

he's also recently appeared in Captain America #43,45,46,48,and 50

The Torch #1:

Jim Hammond's body is uncovered, setting the stage for his resurrection

The Marvel Projects #2

Jim Hammond's first mission, recapped in Mp #2

THE TORCH #2! HAMMOND RESSURECTS!:

The answer to a 70 year old mystery! Why the torch flames up

"The Torch's body cells accumulate heat energy and use it to mimic the processes of life. They were meant to be the engine that powered him--and made him move. Insert footnote. Combustion almost certainly no more than a side effect"

The torch is molecularly reconstructed and injected with a mind control device. He is ressurrected frankenstein style, with no memory of who he is

Torch is tested by his controllers, flying to, and destroying a ship

The Marvels Project #3:

The Torch bests Namor in their first ever encounter........note that Namor is seriously ticked, but still vanquished rather quickly(maybe rage works against more often than not.....i'm not sure)

The Order #7:

According to Henry Hellrung of The Order, one of Namor and Torch's old-time brawls caused"pound for pound and dollar for dollar as much damage as the attack on Pearl Harbor"

great job! I like Jim better than Johnny anyway.

The Torch #3:

Destroys an entire country's air fleet rather quickly

Then destroys a small town in the same country

As the town burns, torch's control are damaged, and he plunges into the sea, dropping to below -20 celsius, causing the mind controlling "compound D" to fail......Jim Flames up while still under the sea, and flys out

Hammond takes some of his anger out on some AIM agents......one fireball seems to cause sufficient damage......he also rejuvenated Toro with his flame

Namor becomes infected with compound D from a spill.....looks like Namor and torch might do battle......again, but for the first time since the WW2 era

The Torch #4:

The Torch is freed from the thinker's direct control, but apparently has lost most or all of his ability to express or feel human emotion......very much like a plight the 2nd vision endured once(ironic, seeing as jim is the vision, technically)

there Hammond goes again, throwing around strict commands with a stone-cold face as if he already knows his opposition can't win......much like in Avengers/Invaders........what I'm wondering is will he be just as uber.

Pretty good physical durability/flame endurance feat......mind controlled Namor suckers Hammond good and he flies into the water.....he swiftly returns to do battle, apparently unharmed and without even having to reflame(in this whole series he's been showing high resistance to water). Can't wait to see how this plays out

Stopping in to say hi, off the road for the holidays.
Great work in this and the Namor thread.
Loving the hell out of the Torch series, brilliant stuff.
Hey anyone else, and coal in the stockings off those still trolling
and making messes off threads. Keep it neat like namorsubby
people.
