how to get started or noticed as a comic artist (links allowed)

i 14 and being modest i am the best artist in my year maybe even the couple years above, well sketching wise i could probs with a little effort get an A at A-level dont say im a jerk but me and my 2 friends are amazing 1 at sketching over at painting so how would i be able to get started, not now but in the future as it would suit me as at 14 i wont change my interests that much as my cousin whos at uni still loves comics and my dad nicks my comics the odd time so i would like to be an artist for a bit and later maybe an architect, so any ideas
(soz for my autobiography)

Recipe for being a Good artist:

To be honest, you need confidence.

thanks man

Work your ass off becoming a better artist, then go to a comic-con with a portfolio or send your work to various companies, both mainstream and indie. Making it as ANYTHING in the comic industry is very hard to do, but artists have a much easier time than writers.

Also wait until you're probably college-age. Companies won't hire 14-year-olds, regardless of talent.

Proper Grammar helps, even if it is not an essay.

ComicCons is a very good idea. Also we live ina day and age were the internet makes everything possible. I would open a Myspace account and post some of your artwork. Make "friends" with a lot of the industry artists/writers and if ur art is as good as u claim, someone will notice sooner or later. At 14, times on ur side.

Any scans of ur art?

When's your birthday?

Trust me, this is important.

It probably couldn't hurt to try doing your own comic.

know the right people, make the right connections....that's all there is to it (or anything for that matter)

having seen some horrible artwork and artists get hired and not fired, I'm almost convinced that there is no threshold one needs to reach to make it as an artist, as long as you know the right people

When asked about becoming an artist at comic-con, they all say the same thing at Marvel;

Have a big portfolio with a large variety of your best work.

Qualifications in art aren't a necessity but they sure help.

All the artists in the big two (Marvel/DC) mention how they got into the business by starting off on drawing lots of unknown indy comics that didn't sell well, but their art was good enough to be noticed by the major companies.

Be prepared for lots of criticism, regardless of the quality of your art, there will always be room for improvement and it should be expected if you want to get into the business. - Cruel, but true for everyone.....

don't tread on my dreams mofo...

The whole comic con and sending thing, but also start making your own comics, and sending them/showing them off.

You'll also do good to try to be part of a small independent place first and work your way up

No, he's trying to matter. And he will fail.

I'm a sketch artist, first you need to go to a reputable school, you need to draw everything you see, and after you've done that, you need to draw, and draw, and draw some more.

Buying books on human anatomy helps as well, and when you come of age working out will also help. With todays cad programs sketching buildings have become far easier. Joe Kuberts school of art is a great place to start your training as well, but if you aren't in the Jersey area just look around for schools in your area.

Remember every artist has a signature, excercise yours, and in time pull yourself away from the signatures of more famous artists.
