Sharingan probly wins.
I wonder, is the rinnegan immune to the genjutsu of the sharingan? Also I think that even though pain clearly has more ability than anyone else, if he's not immune to the immortal sharingan, he's still screwed. Because the IS is basically if you get caught in the genjutsu, you are dead. Also a while back someone said the sharingan strains the user and rinnegan does not. This is not true. The rinnegan takes an enormous strain on the user mentally because they must control 6 different bodies and this requires enormous focus.

Doubt it. Only the Sage, and/or the Elder Brother could have had the abilities of the Sharingan, based on the fact that they gave rise to the Uchiha clans. Having Uchiha DNA is one of the requirements of Izanagi. Simply having and completely mastering a Rinnegan does not give you Uchiha DNA (not unless you already have Uchiha DNA), and hence, does not give you Izanagi.
But the uchiha DNA for sharingan actually came from Rinnegan, so it should be the same. You do not need uchiha DNA, only the eyes (Danzo had eyes only. He did have senju DNA but he is never said to have Uchiha DNA). Rinnegan eyes give rise to uchiha eyes so since Danzo could do izanagi, any rinnegan user should be able to do so.

To be fair to the guy, perhaps he meant that it was revealed that the Uzumaki line has the the Rinnengan, so it's possible Naruto might awaken it at some point. I mean, he won't but you know.....

Actually, Danzou had Shisui's arm as well, which was where the eyes were implanted, but it doesn't matter, since the eyes likely contain Uchiha DNA as well.
Even if the Rinnegan possesses a set of DNA close to that Sharingan, it still would mean that a Rinnegan possessor could not use Izanagi, since the Rinnegan would not possess a set of DNA close to the Senju (not unless we find out that the Rinnegan can only be used by a person with both Uchiha & Senju/Uzumaki DNA).
And if the Rinnegan possessed the abilities of the Sharingan, Madara would never have kept his right Sharingan.
Nagato & the Paths would have been able to use genjutsu using their eyes alone; they would have been able to dodge every single one of Sage Mode Naruto's physical strikes; Deva would have been able to see that the rocks around him were actually masses of chakra.
Personally, since the Sharingan is a separate and evolved form of the Rinnegan, it obviously isn't the same as the Rinnegan, which is why I believe that the Rinnegan cannot replicate all the abilities of the Sharingan. The Byakugan obviously ties into all of this, as it is the only other doujutsu that exists, yet the Rinnegan does not have its abilities.

But the releases are just element combination of the basic 6, so it doesn't really mean anything since Rinnegan could probably do them as well.
