they can disagree all they like, the system people already in power have set in place make other people belive in what they belive in, its called Social control.

They dont stay in power forever but the chances are, one of the people who replaces them is one of the people they spent their time earlier socially contorlling, thus their view would be warped into a similiar view to the former leader. Control doesnt fade, it sometimes changes and evolves to meet what people of today require to be controlled the best, but in the end, throughout histry, control is the means to any large nation.

yes it does, but thats not the only reason why, its usually just arrogence combined with the old "were already fat and happy now, we cba to try anymore" sort of thing.

Actually very few masochists enjoy physical pain, masochism is just the behavior of seeking pain or degradation.
