Having on panel sound effects in many of the panels would suggest that IF they where fighting at superspeed, it wasn't faster than the speed of sound...

Not that I'm defending the feat - in fact, I don't even know what you're referring to; I just wanted to point out that it's no different from having sound effects in space. Comics don't always flow with real world logic, and oft times dramatic effect (sound in space, or speaking at lightspeed) is more important than staying true to physics.

bump for people who seem to think Orion is a brick. And I haven't even posted everything YET.

Actually Orion was using super-speed in the DS fight. Something Walt Simonson stated at the New Gods board a while back.
