good listI don't see what is so good about Jimi Hendrix, I mean he is good, but he isn't the best
From a technical ability standpoint...No he's not...but take it in the context of the time...Noone...and i mean noone sounded like Hendrix...the greatest guitar players in the world trembled at his ability...Eric Clapton, who at the time was the force behind "Cream", the best guitar band of the time, was shaking like a leaf after he allowed the unknown Hendrix open for them in London...Witnesses say he couldn't even light his cigarette he was shaking so much at the thought of having to go on stage after what he just witnessed Hendrix play
Everything he achieved in guitar playing he did so before he was 27 because that's when he died...most of his best work was done in his early 20's...to achieve everything he did and receive all the accolades he did at such a young age...makes him a cut above.
Not to mention that you said you don't see what's so good about him...well other people do...and those people are generally regarded as being among the greatest guitarists in the world

Well, yeah, you do have a point. Clapton was definitely shaking after Hendrix played, I mean Hendrix is probably one of the greatest guitarists of all time, no doubt about it, because I have seen him rockin on his guitar, but his music isn't what I thought it was going to be, I thought he was a kinda blues, and stuff, like Clapton, but he wasn't. Although his National Anthem was kick ass, I won't lie there. Hendrix is probably the 2nd greatest of all time in my books.
Too bad what happened to him. He just wouldn't give up the drugs.
Good for them, they like his music, I mean I like it, but not like his music like others.
IMO Stevie Ray Vaughan is the greatest guitarist who ever lived. He was playing in Rock Bands by age 12. Some blues greats said he can play Hendrix better than Hendrix himself. He played guitar legends, such as Eric Clapton, Albert King (at age 17), David Bowie, Jeff Healey, etc.
How can this thread have gone so long with no mention of the following?
- Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac. You want to hear something amazing look up the acoustic unaccompanied "Big Love"😉
- Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath. Enough said)
- Herman Li (Dragonforce)
- Vernon Reid (Living Colour. Unbelievable solo's)
- Yngwie Malmsteen (Self titled group. Insane speed playing)
- Jerry Cantrel (Alice in Chians. Should have a bad back from carrying the band as long as he did)
... to name a few.
