Still a growing sprout? No he wasn't. He was 28 when he fought Takase, and 29 when he fought Ryo Chonan. By the time he fought Chonan, Anderson Silva had already beaten Hyato Sakurai, Carlos Newton, Lee Murray, and Jeremy Horn. Talk about no excuses.
Lol? The compromises you're making in order to let Anderson Silva off the hook are silly. He was just as good of a fighter back then as he is now. GSP avenged that loss to Serra in humiliating fashion. Calling him overrated because of that fight is absolutely ridiculous, especially considering the fact that he consistently owns people far better than Serra.
I never argued that Silva was a god and not overrated; he's certainly of a much higher caliber than GSP though with GSP's vast record of chosen easy fights. The first Serra being one of them and it blowing up in his face.
I lol'd when that happened. Was like, "oh, here's another lack-luster fool for GSP to easily pummel so the UFC can sell shirts and whatnot to the fanboys". Then it blew up in their faces, as Serra wasn't having it; seems he was given a stern speaking to the next fight.

Not sure how you can call A. Silva overrated and then mBate GSP.GSP lost to Matt Serra. Serra, dude. A complete loud-mouth chump.
Silva fought and beat a bunch of ham, and got his ass whooped for four rounds and a half against Chael Sonnen.
The only hams GSP fought in the last couple of years were Serra and Hardy (he lost against Serra, but in the rematch, he beat the shit out of him) and won/stomp any other opposition.

Every fighter got a punch chance. But look at what happened at the rematch.
Also, let's compare their last 10 match, just for shit and giggle:
Rich Franklin: Nothing to say on this. Awesome victory.
Dan Henderson: Nothing to say on this, Henderson is a beast.
James Irvin: A ham.
Patrick Coté: A ham.
Thales Leites: A ham.
Forrest Griffin: Very legit, crushing victory.
Demian Maia: Not only this is a ham, but Silva gave us probably one of the worst match ever. Dana White said that his ass was fired if he does again what he did that night.
Chael Sonnen: Silva got his ass whooped. He won this one because, out of nowhere, he pulled the submission. Is anyone was impressed by his performance?
Vitor Belfort: Great victory against a legend. Awesome k.o.
Yushin Okami: Crushing victory.
So, Silva got some really nice victory in his last ten fight, but some of them on a bunch of ham.
GSP:
Matt Serra: The infamous "Upset". Serra was a ham, and he was the luckest man on Earth at that moment.
Josh Koshchek: Take a look at Koshchek creds in wrestling, and with that in mind, knows that GSP dominate his ass in the wrestling departments.
Matt Hugues: GSP via armbar on a "still in prime" Matt Hugues
Matt Serra: Simply put, GSP ground him. Serra was in turtle position, while GSP bombard his ribcage with knees. Serra was still a ham.
Jon Fitch: The undisputed second best welterweight in the world at the time. At the end of the fight, GSP was fine, Fitch looked like someone who was on the receiving end of a beating from a gang.
BJ Penn: GSP stomped him.
Thiago Alves: GSP humiliated him
Dan Hardy: A ham.
Jsh Koscheck: Koscheck'eye was so ****ed up that he couldn't even get a plane to go back to the USA. He had to be operated in Montreal before taking a plane.
Jake Shields: When they fought, Shields was riding a 15 win streak, one of them was Dan Henderson. GSP won this one too.
The opposition GSP fought was far, far greater. He got more decision victory, sure, but he dominated every single round he fought in after the Serra defeat.
So, seriously? GSP overrated? Either you're kidding, or you just hate the guy.

Serra was the luckiest man on Earth, that night, when every stars aligned, and he threw that magical, once-in-a-liftime punch. That's it.
Silva won against Chael, but this is the kind of win (the "barely survived" kind of win) that GSP don't possess in his record.
Who isn't overrated, IYO, if GSP is, and Silva might be too?
Please, say Nick Diaz. I want a good laugh.
