Ethan Hunt vs. James Bond (Craig)

Figured this'd be a pretty interesting thread. Ethan Hunt (as played by Tom Cruise from the Mission Impossible series) and James Bond (Daniel Craig, Casino Royale + Quantum of Solace).

1. Tracking and assassination: Both Ethan and James are assigned by their respective agencies to kill each other. They have access to whatever weaponry (including cars and such) they used in the movies. James gets MI6 backing and intelligence, Ethan gets to use the same team he used in Mission Impossible 3. Everything goes.

2. Gun fight: James and Ethan duke it out in an abandoned warehouse (meaning lots of potential cover). Both get a pistol and an assault rifle of their choice.

3. Fist fight: Just a straight up fist fight to the death.

Who wins in each of the scenarios mentioned above?

Bond, all three. He's more the assassin, than Hunt.

1. Hunt has much better tech. I don't remember Bond having any at all. Hunt will also have backup in the field, which makes him the obvious winner for me.

2. Bond doesn't really have any gun feats 😮. While Hunt took out all the men in the warehouse and also on the roof of the building holding the Rabbit's Foot. Hunt.

3. Bond.

He has that phone which gives him instant acccess to M6 and all their tech.

He hit's whatever he shoots at. He also has a serious knack for dodging bullets, as seen in the scene when trying to capture the first bomb maker in CR.

That's only for intelligence though. Hunt has physical tech that he could use in the field.

What tech do you see Hunt using to win here? The way I see it, they're both extremely good at tracking people, with the help of their organizations, yet Bond is still the better killer overall.

Though Bond was shown to be resourceful even when MI6 cut him off, for what it's worth.

Well, Hunt's teammates had that cannon with thermal vision. Remote bombs. Er, that's all I can think of right now.

As for tracking, I'm not sure Bond has enough experience to know that Hunt could imitate anyone with the mask and voice thing.

I see Bond winning 2 of the 3 hands down.

Craig imo, is the best skilled Bond of the franchise.

Even if Bond knew Ethan was the master of disguises, would he actually be able to figure out who he was?

Especially if he also disguised his voice.

2/3 for Bond, imo.

IMO, Bond takes the assassination and the fistfight. Gunfight? I'm not sure. In MI:2, I'm pretty sure Ethan blew out the wheels of a moving car while speeding on a motorcycle. Is that badass or what? Bond has got a hell of a lot of gun feats, but I don't think he has an accuracy feat to match that.

The only scenario that might go in Hunts favor is the tracking and assassination. Bond would wreck Hunt in either a fist or gun fight. I say this not only because of Bonds excellent display of marksmanship but also his environmental awareness. Bond seems to utilize his surroundings better than any other spy that i have seen.

As for the tracking and assassination scenario i think Hunt has a good chance here. His team would be of little use to him. The only assistance they might offer in this scenario is a watchful eye. With the aid of MI6, however, Bond would most likely be able to access all of Hunts information and know his team.Unless Hunts agency has a mole in MI6 the only information they will find out about Bond is his name face and everyone knows that. Knowing who Hunt is working with would negate their contributions because he would most likely hunt and dispatch them systematically before targeting Hunt.. If Bond doesn't target Hunts team first he would still be aware of their tactics, thanks to MI6. Hunts biggest advantage here would be his prosthetics and field tech. Bond is going to try and lure Hunt to him but without a face to look for he is at a great disadvantage. The only thing that may hurt Hunts chances in this scenario is Bonds patience and ruthlessness but i really don't think Bond would realize that he is hunting a faceless man before it's to late.

True that. Still, does no one agree with my thing about the guns? I just watched Casino Royale on TV, and Bond was pretty skilled in that movie, but most of his good feats are H2H or intelligence/resourcefulness; he's good with a gun, but he didn't do anything hyper-extraordinary with it. Unlike Ethan.

Yeah, i would have agreed with you before seeing Quantum of Solace. The scene where Bond is fighting that bastard on the scaffeling and they both get entangled in the ropes while fighting for a fallen gun. Bond wraps himself in the ropes and releases his weight so he falls to the ground as the rope unravels him. He is falling to the ground in a rapid spinning. Right before he hits the ground the rope pulls taut on Bonds leg saving him from slamming into the ground. Nearly simaltaneously as the rope pulls taut Bond grabs the gun on the ground, looks up and with one shot kills his target. Bond just spun several stories to the ground and through the disorientation of that spin he took his target out with one shot all in the matter of a second.

Oh, yeah, I remember that...

I don't think it's better than blowing the wheels off a car while speeding on the highway on a motorcycle, though. So I'm going to stick by my precious assumption.

Even in a fistfight, Bond will have a pretty difficult time. He'll win, but not easily by any means.

Does his Ghost Protocol feats give Ethan a better chance?

Hunt takes the first one. Bond the rest.

Some of that stuff in Ghost Protocol was pretty impressive. Cars with HUD windshields, holograms, those sticky gloves, etc.

Sticking with original analysis, but I'm starting to think Hunt might even win the H2H. Good toughness showing in MI4, when hits his head trying to swing into the hotel room and in the last car park scene, that should've been instant KO for any other human.

Hunt definitely upped his game in Ghost Protocol.
