I'm just saying that I think the Old Republic (galaxy) may have been beaten if Malak didn't betray Revan because

Revan will have probably beaten Bastila and her battle meditation if Malak didn't fire on that bridge. It would not have been that easy to find the Star Forge and destroy it without Revan.

If malak didn't turn on Revan he would have taken over the entire galaxy in order to save it not to rule it.
