Whats left behind.

Several catastrophic events wipe out greater humanity and it's buildings/ institutions throughout the world.
These may include nuclear war, sea levels rising and intercontinental biological warfare.

All of mankind if obliterated except for a small island who, hundreds of years after the actual event encounter 10 objects in a time capsule that has somehow survived.

What would you pick for those 10 objects and why?
Keep in mind these items will shape their idea about our entire global culture.

first one would be a bottle of booze..second a playboy or hustler penthouse etc...third...umm another bottle of booze..fourth..a dvd player...fifth guess a movie since I just got a dvd player...sixth a beer..
seventh a sample of whiskeygirls dna so i could bring her back...eighth a lighter they come in handy...ninth a sample of queeqs dna so he could start the milk bar again..tenth a razor..I havent shaved lately so it came to mind..guess this where I stop...what a world it would be!...I thnk we need a few more choices....like a distillery... seeds to grow things...guns and bullets to shoot stuff with(easier than making arrows and spears)...but if only ten I stick with what I got...oh and I need a generator or something for my dvd player!

1.One Bible
2.Copy of the US constitution
3.USA today newspaper (the day Obama took office)
4.Cell phone
5.Laptop
6.Global atlas
7 Sports almanac
8.One of those "History of the world" books (I saw one at waldenbooks)
9.One of those time/Life books that shows the results of war, so that they might see it and form a peaceful society without weapons.
10.Finally, a journal of the events that occurred leading to the end of civilization, so that they might read it and avoid making the same mistakes that we did.

The bible would just be restarting all the problems that most likely caused the nuclear war to begin with...i.e organised religion.

1 bear grylls survival dvd
1 first aid book
1 book on the history of leonardo davinci
1 copy of the dice man
1 tuned guitar.

its not easy to give a serious answer to this question because the receiver of the capsule can interpret and use the items in whatever he/she wants.

The persons personality could actually determine the future not the items enclosed, although they would have an important influence.

They might worship the capsule as some sort of God and never open it for example.

I'd fill it with ten different highly lethal diseases tailored to kill only humans. The odds of anyone being immune to all of them are extremely low. With those few idiots out of the way the planet would be saved.

True...i think we're guilty of asuming these people are illiterate and uncultured and don't already know about religion...i tried to tailor my answers so that the books don't neccesarily have to be in English but can still get a point across...

But assuming that the survivors don't already adhere to some form of religion is probably a bit silly.
