Brett Ratner to Direct Youngblood

Reliance Big Entertainment has acquired Rob Liefeld's iconic graphic novel "Youngblood" for Brett Ratner to direct, reports Variety.

The company paid mid six figures for the rights to "Youngblood," about a superhero team sanctioned and overseen by the U.S. government.

"Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and 'Youngblood' is one of the few comic books left with tentpole potential," Ratner told the trade. "It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted ('Youngblood'😉, but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they're able to move."

Reliance has also acquired the rights to French graphic novel "Fly Wires" for Ratner's Rat Entertainment.

The project, which will be renamed Infinity, will be produced by Ratner, who has already tapped Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) to direct and John Collee ("Master and Commander"😉 to write the script.

Both projects are being fast-tracked, although no decision has been made on whether they will eventually land at Paramount.

I read that.. I don't particularly read Youngblood, but I doubt this will work

He's not looking hard enough if he reakon theres no great graphic novels around.

I followed Youngblood for a few months during it's debut. I've checked in on it a few times since. I've never considered Youngblood a graphic novel. Either way, it's still a decent read but i don't think it is the right time for a Youngblood movie.

you know, i shit on Ratner a lot but thats just because of Rush Hour 3. Rush Hour 3 is one of the worst movie's i've ever seen, both technically artistically. It was a total hack job. The only inspiration for that movie came from Ratners hard on for a new Lamborghini. I'm being hard on the guy because someone needs to get shat on for that repulsive movie. Otherwise, he has shown to be a competent Director.
I liked what he did with Red Dragon and although X3 was one of the worst comic book movie's i've ever seen, it was shot very well. Maybe Ratner took X3 because he had plans for future comic flicks and wanted to learn a bit about the effects trade. At any rate, seeing how he filmed X3 i think he could pull off something like this. I don't know how well people will respond to it's story though.

I don't think the problems with X-3 had much to do with Ratner. The movie was made under time constraints and Ratner himself was brought in at the last minute. And even then the faults with movie seem to have more to do with the script than the actual direction or cinematography. The Dark Phoenix element of the story just didn't work at all and it took away from the cure story which I felt was great. Don't really think you can judge his merits as a director based on X-3.

Can't imagine Youngblood being good though no matter who directed it. The best we can hope for is a mindless fun popcorn movie... and that isn't always a bad thing.

I don't think youngblood could work as anything else other than an action spectacle.

Brett Ratner is nothing but a no talent director only in it for the money. he doesn't give a damn about what he does to things. But somehow he continues to get jobs on directing.

MTV's Splash Page spoke with comic creator Rob Liefeld, following his recent Twitter announcement that he was meeting with director Brett Ratner to discuss the live action movie based on Liefeld's Image Comics superteam Youngblood. The comic book launched the Image Comics line back in 1992 and has had a sporadic publishing schedule at various publishers in the 16 years since, but Liefeld seems genuinely enthusiastic about his creations being brought to the screen. (Sidenote: Liefeld also co-created Deadpool, who appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.)

Liefeld talked to Splash Page about the writers on the project, J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani, who are also writing another film project based on one of Liefeld's creations, the Bryan Singer-produced Capeshooters.

The only thing questionable to me about a Youngblood movie is whether Badrock will be CGI or a guy in a costume.

He's not gonna be in the movie if you watched that interview.

I want to believe that Ratner can pull it off, but I'm thinking that this is going to be a cheese fest.
