Sure, but in a supercar, it's stupid. Jay Leno once said that only an idiot would take their ultra expensive supercar to the max because it's only good to do that 3 or 4 times and you're out a $30,000 transmission. (And he owns like....10X as many supercars as you and I will ever see in our life. lol!)
I don't see why one couldn't race a "normal" car, or a car they've modified specifically to race (i.e., racing quality drive shaft...but I've seen a "modded" '67 Camero snap a high-performance (aluminum) drive-shaft just trying the quarter-mile.)

I used to when I was a teenager and I drove an old school monte carlo that I rebuilt (with my brother, of course.) But, those days are over. I drive a Honda Accord, now.
Also, try this next someone pulls up next to you at a redlight: if they make it seem like they are going to race, quickly put your car into neutral, rev-up your engine really high, as though you are going to race. Then, when the light turns green, accelerate REALLY slowly. It's hilarious. I LMAO every time.

Originally posted by dadudemonas long as you dont floor it right off the back you wont blow your transmission you just gotta take it easy accelerating depending on which gear your at. you can reach the top speed of your supercar without blowing anything. gonna drain some gas for sure since your RPM is gonna be way at the top.

I don't mean this sarcastically, but, it sounds like you have experience racing supercars???
