In the late 19th century, millions of human mummies were used as fuel for locomotives in Egypt where wood and coal was scarce, but mummies were plentiful.

So they burned their mums, but what did they do with the sudden excess dads? huh? 😕

Browsed around a bit on this mummy-fuel, and it's not very likely that Egyptian mummies were effectively used to power steam engines.
Basically, they're just bundles of bones with a neglectable amount of carbonhydrates on em, wrapped in straw and bandages.
Flammable, yes. But high in energy-output while burning? Not at all.

Mark Twain wrote about it, but now that I read up on it more, it seems he was stretching the truth.
