weve been getting straight 1's[superior rating] since i was a sophmore and last year in Williamsburgh, we got Best Overall band in the Festival of Music excellent

Thats nothin. The past 4 years. Our band got straight ones at contest against 7 bands. I played percussion. And we had the smallest band there too. Even though it seems like half of our student population plays in band.

But our band went to 2 conferences and have played for bob ludwig. He gave us all new snares and 2 new bass drums for it. But, when we played for him we had 2 snares that had holes in the bottom heads. Our bass drumstick was sooo over used and old we had a sock over top of it. We were the poorest, most unprofessional looking band there was.

I loved playing, but i quit this year because my band director is a douche.
Now i was never in marching band.
But our marching band has gone to state finals 3 years in a row and got straight ones but only made it 4th outta 34 diffrent bands.

Im real proud of our misfit band we had. It was a whole lotta fun.

we were the smallest in the region as well, but how loud we were able to play as well as how well we played made us sound like a full, big ass band
a lot of our equipment was old and beat up, cause we too were dirt poor, like the marching tubas being made out of fiber glass and one of them having a big ass hole in them
our director could be an ******* sometimes, but he at least vastly improved our playing and made us very professional when it came to competitions and interracting in public and in front of other bands
i miss it 🙁

I have a Daredevil #1, and the price I paid for it shows greater dedication to the cause than people who sit at home downloading their comics.

No it's not... You bought it second hand.

we were never a competition band, we did it for entertainment, to entertain the public
the only time we were actually enter was my senior year cause we did really good in Williamsburg and in the Adjunication Festival the previous year

well. we didnt really do it for the publistity. because generally we just did little contests, then someone paid us to go into the big stuff.and it just went from there.

I'm still studying math. weep

Same.

Additionally I want a WePad rather than an iPad.

I'm studying maths also.

Because I wasn't alive in the '60s. It has no bearing on the quality of fan that I am. You have literally no choice but to buy them used unless you were there to pick one up off the shelf.

What an odd thing to say.

That still seems like slightly more dedication than downloading comics at home.

Really, going outside and checking whether there's a Daredevil #1 under a rock shows more dedication...

Dedication to comic books certainly, dedication into putting money into the buisness... Not so much, When I first read it I took it as dedication in a financial sense as opposed to in a fan sense. As buying second hand things only effects the price of second hand goods.

I haven't got a single legal comic book.

Then again I've not got any illegal comic books either... I don't read comics. 😛

I don't really see why owning a comic book from way back then is any better then downloading a copy of it. You're only robbig a private collector out of a small fortune.

Then the fault is yours for deciding what I meant by "the cause".

With that said, I buy anywhere from 8-12 comic books per week, so I put money into the business also. That's new comic books and no including any paperback collected editions I might buy, as well as what I get on eBay every week.

Also, I don't follow the logic on the second part. I'm robbing a collector of a small fortune by paying a small fortune for the item he agreed to sell, being a collector myself?

If you agree to sell something that rare, you're either not a collector anymore, a dealer or someone for whom money is a greater need. Either way, I'm not robbing anyone of anything.

You don't see why owning a Daredevil #1 is better than downloading it because you aren't into comics. Anyone can download a comic. Anyone can download the first appearance of Superman (Probably), but it'll cost you 1.5 million dollars to own the actual comic, considering there are about 12 left that are in good condition.

To someone who doesn't have a passion for the medium, that would seem crazy. To someone who does, try asking them what's the difference between owning it and downloading it.

It all depends on what's important to you; reading the stories or possessing the stories. The actual items. Also, when you get into the territory of major first appearances or issues, you're considering these comics investments also. My Daredevil #1 will only go up in value over time.

I read popular physics books for relaxation. I build parts in SolidWorks (3D solid models) at work, and hang around engineers all day.

I wasn't judging you for it so don't get so defensive. I said "I don't see the reason" not "There is no reason". I misinterpreted your original post as "I spend lots of money therefor I care more about comic books", Which I thought was maybe a little unfair because there are people who simply can't afford to buy the comic books but are as dedicated and so might download them. I just took it as fanboy snobbery. Which is why I replied with a put down which pretty much stated that downloading or buying meets the same end in respect to finances.

However you have since said that this is not what you were getting at I accept it and apologise.

My example I guess would be retro games. I own many old and valuable games and have spent substantial sums for some of them but at the same time I don't have any problem with people downloading the ROMs because no one who produced the games is seeing a profit from them anyway. And my main wish is for more people to experience the games. How they do it I do not care.

I do have multiple reprints of the first appearance of Superman.

Just sayin'....somewhat on topic even

The mere fact that I am a poster on KMC should be enough of an example of my nerdiness.

To point out the supporting facts would just be over-kill.

My nerdy passion is collecting sideshow and bowen designs marvel / dc statues

You people must be confused. You're not a nerd for wasting your time and money playing video games, collecting toys or comics.

You're a nerd if you spend your spare time solving tensor integrals, code a program to do something you want because you can't find a readily available program that does it, or play around with particle interactions and couplings because you think it's cool.
