Homework? Nah Thanks

PARIS (Reuters) – "You can't do it? We're here to help," says the homepage of a new French website where children can pay for older students to do homework for them.

On faismesdevoirs.com (domyhomework.com), children will be able to buy answers to simple maths problems for 5 euros ($6), while a full end-of-year presentation complete with slides and speaking notes will cost 80 euros ($100).

The website goes live Thursday morning, founder Stephane Boukris told Reuters.

"I realized there was a gap in the market. Add to that a dose of insolence, a zest of arrogance and the internet, and you have faismesdevoirs.com," he said.

Schoolteachers reacted with outrage.

"It is shocking. It defeats the purpose of education which is that the pupils need to learn for themselves how to do the work," said Agathe Field, a young English teacher at a secondary school in a suburb of Paris.

"It turns them into consumers. The message is that for the right price you can get the results you want. It's nonsense," she said.

Boukris defended the website, saying that the schoolchildren would still learn something if they bought homework from the site because it would come with annotations from the students explaining how they got to the final result.

"We're not just giving them the fish, we're teaching them how to fish," Boukris said in a telephone interview.

"Of course some schoolchildren might use the system to cheat, but they'll have to learn sooner or later because we won't be there on exam day," he said.

What do people expect really? I know this sounds irresponsible, but I don't think education should be compulsory.

We had similar service for our dissertations when I was at University -
£1 - per word for 1:1 Dissertation
50p - per word for 2:2 Dissertation

About 8 thousand GBP, to get 1:1 for Social sciences on undergraduate level.

Of course, it defeats the purpose of education, but if you have the money - you're sorted.

And the dissertation is written for you, so it is original, as opposed to chunks of it being plagerised or using someone else's dissertation.

????

Most Text books I had always explained 'how to get to the final result' when the text book is read.

Its not like Boukris found anything original.

Second point: Spoonfeeding every method is conditioning the student that unless someone helps, the student wont get the answer with in depth contemplation. (Makes Sense?)

Re: Homework? Nah Thanks

This part in particular tickles me:

'"It turns them into consumers. The message is that for the right price you can get the results you want. It's nonsense," she said.'

How dare someone bring the real world of business to school?!!?!!??! 😆

I am sick and tired of the bullshit homework assignments that don't teach me jack shit...but only serve as a time consuming chore to just jump through a professors loop to get a piece of paper that says you jumped through some professors loops.

Almost every last homework assignment I have done has been a total and utter waste of time that didn't serve to teach me anything. I feel like 95% of all time I spend on college courses is complete waste and 5% is useful.

However, this is the system setup that they want us to learn.

I could learn, on my own, it one month, what it takes to learn in 2 semesters WITHOUT that bullshit homework and tests with questions that only serve to inflate a professors ego. You people may read that and say, "bullshit, he couldn't do that in a month."

I say, bullshit on you for being a dumbass. I can do it and have done it. "eduction" is largely NOT education...it's jumping through loops to satisfy someone enough to get a piece of paper.

I SO FRIGGIN AGREE!!!!
edit: sorry I forgot to quote

high school example: U.S. History .....slept thru class...read the chapter twice passed every test ...mid/final (½ semester credit) terms 200 questions missed one ONLY one...and yes I was a bad boy who was wasted 4 out of 5 school days...chasing after babes but still passed with an A...health class slept but read it twice passed with an A....math I stuck to basic but made an A or B depends on if I showed up for that one....hehe typing was my favorite cause my wife..(we r high school sweethearts who have lasted 16 years)I took her out at night got her wasted but then I would do her typing homework..we got busted cause of different type writers but the teacher let her pass and failed me..she had faith in us..good teacher...she knew I did the work cause it was my typewriter she knew how to tell somehow...but she let it go...she was kewl cause she said she knew I loved her!! I was better at geometry than algebra..go figure..dont know dont care ..but if I can sleep thru class and pass with an A just by doing my own studies on my own time why all the course crap...though math and CERTAIN science YOU DO NEED the courses and the labs..jus depends...IMO...some things they make you go for are pointless..waste of time...now days I hear they make you goto class or you dont get your pell grants???wifey is thinking about going...???

Re: Re: Homework? Nah Thanks

We end up studying and doing home-works, just so at the end of a period we sit and 'get qualified' according to what we are examined. I agree, BS with this site and the society's need to have us qualified according to their own rules.

I feel we are being grown into tools playing a ball game we don't really want.

Why study? To get qualifications Yes?
Why get qualified? To get a Job?
Why Job? To Get Money Yes?

In my experience, I first got a job in a position, then was sent over to do a course that qualified me in that post. Tutors had me rewrite things about half a dozen times, in order to match what the course teaches, but quite frankly, i failed to adapt what was in writing to experience........BECAUSE THINGS don't SIMPLY WORK OUT LIKE THAT.

The course i did wasn't a great deal. Just because it thought me how to make a living, I didn't feel it thought me how to make a life.

One radical of this nonsense is my brother , fully qualified as a business analyst with a moderate wallet, but has no life at all. Doesn't go out, just drives to work, back home and work again. Not even the weekend and never had a girlfriend consumed by the appetite of knowledge, that the Bank uses to favour. So he has knowledge, and makes a living without a life ?

The end justifies the means, but is there is more in the means to justify such an end?

AHHH ; my pointless rambling at 10.30 am. Excuse me but I'm pissed off, irrelevant of the relevancy of this thread. Now that i reread it I feel I'm really being a stroppy ill-happy mard.

£8,000 for a 1st class honours degree. It's the top mark you can get. Personally, i'd say it's a waste of money for the person who pays and not enough money for the person who writes the dissertation.

Something for me to consider though. I could make a few bucks out of this kind of thing.

given how rampant plagiarism is at all levels of education, I really don't see the issue.

Like lil'b said, at least this is original work

Because this would validate cheating.

Cheating is an extremely useful skill.

Anyways, the awarding institutions just need to evaluate in a more personal way, or, as they already say, you'll fail sooner or later, cause the website can't help you in an exam.

I am wondering though, lil b, what does the 1:1 and 2:2 mean in your post?

Cheating is more the absence of skills if anything.

Well, cheating is really just an act. The ability can be a skill though.

Eric Cartmenez said it best.

Successful academic cheating, however, is the employment of intelligence through processes to circumvent having to provide information, actions, etc. during an exam or other form of measured ability.

Being able to accomplish this "cheating" is a very intelligent skill. It is similar to hacking. It is literally hacking the set of rules in an academic assessment.

Cheating is cheating, though. I do not like it. Bitches could get better grades than me if they cheat. We can't be having that, now can we? 😄

The way it is measured how good your degree is.

1:1 - First Class Honours
2:1 - Upper Second Class
2:2 - Lower Second Class
3 - Ordinary degree without honours
