Wolverine is the fictionnal James Dean, and that, plus the fact that he's Canadian = auto win.

He epitomizes the idiotic one-sided rivalry in anime born from an almost pretentious sense of self-obsession that in his case, took over two hundred episodes to realize. The only thing he was EVER useful for in the Buu saga was fusing with Goku; at least every other Saiyan thrashed Buu at some point before being outmatched. It also took that long for him to actually show some REAL development.

I don't detest him so much as just don't respect his character. I can frankly see why he's even one of Akira Toriyama's least favorite characters.
