The forum is in danger of closing.

As a long time forum dude, I feel this merits discussion. Mainly because there are certain reasons why it is happening, and individuals who should be held accountable for it.

I have been called biased and other things, some of it justly. But if this forum does fall, then at least I will take heart that I am blameless in it's demise.

Let all come and be heard, for this may be the last days of comics vs. 🙁

Christ, it seems like every time I log on here there's some kind of new drama transpiring 👇.

The simple fact is that people need to start being a little more mature, and not let internet based 'debates' with people they'll never see, turn into anything more than topic related discussions. Granted, everyone has a heated moment every now and then, but there is no reason those moments can't stay on topic/civil - and if they can't, then drop it. It's the friggin internet, who cares?

All I did was make the topic. I'm almost at the point where I say let it burn. 😗

Although:

"I am new here so I hope this doesn't come off as too presumptious.

Why can't the powers that be simply allow the VS forum to be a no mans land?

They can put a special disclaimer at the top of the forum and allow self-policing. The truly egregious parties will mos6 likely venture out and get banned anyway."

This idea has merit. Anarchy ftw? 😛 I'm well aware that I'm probably the guy who at least some people will blame for this.

Which isn't entirely inaccurate, but I'm more ambivalent than anything else. 😉

"This is the will of Metatron."

This is a losing battle. The global mods on this forum are stubborn as shit and revel in that fact.

They don't listen to the mods we have in this section and they sure as hell won't listen to the normal members. Instead, they'll continue to drop snide remarks here and there, maybe drop a banhammer or two and eventually shut this place down.

Predictable.

I nominate myself as a new Mod. who's voting for me?

Meh, he is more of a D-lister. I only give my votes to C-listers and above 😛

Best. Line. Ever.

As for voting in B-Listers, or Dictator wannabes - the mods have their own process in being able to choose who is Mod. None of us get a vote on that system - which in my opinion proves how elitist they really are. (Fascist e-powered dictators). Becoming a mod is not something you can just be voted in by the general membership.

I do feel like things need to change some, a restructuring of the way things are handled. I know I advocated for a new mod, and I still do. I just disagree with the process. Especially since the main problem, besides the actual troublemakers, is the mods prejudice towards us simply because we are a COMIC VS section.

Make me mod. It's been the answer everyone has been ignoring all along.

I don't have anything new to add, but I'll throw in my $.02:

- I don't really get why people even use the report button at all, honestly, save for the obvious sock of troll. Is what somebody behind a computer screen that hurtful that it merits a report to a mod? This is a comic book forum, for God's sake. It's not that serious, and there's really nothing that it that serious, IMO. Use the ignore function as opposed to reporting posters.

- That being said, closing down an entire section of a Website seems like a woefully lazy thing to do. If the Versus Forum gets the most traffic, doesn't it follow that it's going to be the most susceptible to trolls and the like? There are scores of new threads and dozens of posters on each day here; it makes sense that a few of those threads and posters are out looking to cause some trouble. The sad thing is that this situation seems relatively easy to fix, whether it be by adding a mod/global or by stiffening the punishments for violating the rules. However, it just seems funny that mods who don't even visit--much less frequent--this forum are all for axing it. They don't deal with this forum, so why does it matter? As for it looking bad that this place gets so many warnings and the like, as I said earlier, it makes sense given this forums' daily traffic.

Just really sounds like the other mods have an ax to grind for whatever reason.

so no objections? cool, guess it's settled...I'm the defacto leader of the vs members for the time being. You must all get any ideas through me before releasing them.

I will announce phase I of the action plan as soon as it becomes feasible...stay tuned.

I think the problem concerning BS reports is the fact that there's no consistency in the kind of debating that's allowed/encouraged. Take a look at herochat or CBR and you'll see two forums where even though people are in disagreement over the outcome of a match, everybody still debating the same way and adhering to the same rules of conduct. Here on KMC, half of the people debate "herochat style" and half of them debate "CBR style" so people end up reporting those who debate differently. I understand that we've tried to set up KMC to be the middle ground between the two forums in the hopes for more reasonable debating, but to put it bluntly we failed, plane and simple. As long as it's unclear whether it's worse to "troll" by asking for proof or to "troll" by refusing to post proof these little incidents are going to keep cropping up because people can't even agree on the most basic foundations of the debate itself. From highschool to Presidential Debates, any real debate has rules that BOTH parties have to follow and it's like that for a very good reason... it's the only way that it EVER works successfully.

If they really want to make things better around here they need to give the Mods from barring people from threads that they're causing problems in like they have at CBR. At CBR if someone bumps a thread with claims without posting proof of any kind to support it a mod just stops in and says something to the effect of "You're not allowed to post in this thread again until you post proof to support your claims" and the problem ends because the trouble maker either stops posting there, post proof to support what he's saying(which makes it far less aggravating for those he/she is debating against so they're less likely to hit the report button), or gets banned for ignoring the Mods very simple and specific instructions.

Agreed. The first step to making this place work is to set hard and fast rules for debates. Loose rules with occasional patches to cover holes are not working and never really did work.

yes, I am working on a set of sensible preliminary set of rules that can be easily enforced

I will post a draft when it's done and people can amend it accordingly

The only thing you're superior at is singing folk songs you damn hippie! uhuh

We'll leave this thread open since it's been mostly civil and there's alot happening with the Vs Forum.

We don't want to police the forum or ref threads. people should be able to post their opinions freely. All we really ask is that there be no bashing, flaming, trolling and keep the cursing at a minimum. Use the ignore function if you can't get along with a poster and back your posts with proof. Seems pretty easy but here we are.
