GR has a single chain that can heat up. Spawn has a whole lot more than can do more than heat up(they can't heat up though) I think Spawn takes this.

And the chains are controlled by telekenesis (something like that) that Cogliostro teaches him how to use them

Yeah, all GR can do is toss it, Spawn can control his over a fairly large distance, and with uncanny accuracy.
