Oan Laws (SPOILER ALERT)

Ok, first off, I am the BIGGEST Green Lantern/GLC fan there now is. Green Lantern/GLC is what got me back into comics with the 'Sinestro Corp War' after a 15 yr hiatus (due mostly to going to college and the rising price of comics). But now, with the War of Light/Blackest Night I think this is the best storyline going...maybe EVER!

But things bug me about these storylines. The new Oan laws have to be number 1.

1. Green Lanterns are permitted to kill Sinestro Corps members...made sense to me, as the SC were making mince-meat out of the GLC until this happened.

2. Green Lanterns are authorized to kill ALL enemies of the GLC. This one bugged me, as in why not have this law to begin with? Makes the first one completely redundant.

3. GL's are forbidden to have romantic attachments. This law drives me up the wall as it has been clearly shown that when a GL breaks an Oan law, their ring shuts down...so why is Kyle and is girlfriend in GLC look like they are auditioning for 'Days of our Lives'...but no consequences as far as their rings go...

4. This law was just introduced in the latest issue of GL. GL Stel is pursuing a Sinestro Corp member into the 'forbidden' Vega system...his ring warns him to desist, but Stel 'overrides' his ring and goes anyway...at the end of the issue the Guardians unveil their new law - the Vega system is no longer off-limits.

So what the hell?? When you disobey the Guardians shouldn't your ring shut down??? 😠

maybe that wasn't a very strict law of the Lantern..that's why Steel can overrides it..Kyle and Natu broke the 3th law..their ring is working just fine..maybe their law doesn't mean anything anymore..

I dunno...'consistency' would be nice, as it seems you can ignore some laws with impunity...

A possible explanation: when Guy Gardner was sent on his covert operation into the Vega System, the Guardians temporarily lifted the "automatic shut-down," and just didn't reinstate it yet.

Obviously not a perfect solution, but if the lack of consistency is bothering you that much, then you can just pretend this is true.

It's all for the plot's sake, and it's a comic book. Crank up the suspension of disbelief or you won't be able to read any title for longer than a few months.

It's not. This is a forum for discussing comicbooks in general and as a whole. Rule one in any fiction format is suspension of disbelief.

We can do without the sarcasm. It was legitimate advice, not intended as ridicule. Plot holes can be found in almost any issue, let alone entire runs, of a series due to the intricate continuity that every character and universe usually has.

Obviously...suspension of disbelief is implied when reading about little blue midgets in toga's living at the center of the galaxy while policing said galaxy with warriors who use a green energy sourced from the collective willpower of all sentient beings...

What bugs me is contradictions in this mythos...contradictions that maybe have a rational explanation but has yet to be revealed...and probably will not be revealed since they really make no sense...little details like this (IMO) make big differences...

Alright, I took it wrong...I apologize...I do really enjoy discussing things of this nature (like picking out errors in a movie)...
