The guy was never on trial for murder, but manslaughter. It also may interest you to know that out of the 12 jurors 2 were black and both of them never thought the cop was guilty(there were 2 hold outs for a guilty verdict at first, but it was white people).
That in itself doesn't mean anything, though it does always seem like with these cases unless we get a guilty verdict people just assume the not guilty verdict came due to corruption/racism. So before these trials even begin there is this aura that surrounds them which more or less says "if this person is found innocent it's not because they are actually innocent".
