I'd also farmed a lot of Sources, primarily Luck and Speed because they're easy as shit to get quite a few of. 4x counter attack materia, Double-Slash @ master, HP Plus, Master Magic (wasn't that useful in the end), Enemy Skill w/ Big Guard, Hades + Added Effect, W-Item, and, importantly, Final Attack + Mastered Revive.
What was your strategy
Go in with two party members KO'd, so that Ruby doesn't **** with you and eject your solo fighter. Also you'll need at least 12 to 16 hero drinks. Get a bunch of Dazers morphed from these enemies in the Lost Capital area, they paralyse Ruby for a couple turns, and with haste added you can usually get a few attacks in without getting countered. Every time Ruby attacks, Yuffie counters back four times, which slowly gets his health down, and sometimes the added effect of Hades makes him Slow for a few turns too. You spend most of the battle using Big Guard when it runs out, and applying hero drinks and elixirs on yourself or healing in some way at least and relying on counter attacks, but you can heal and daze Ruby at the same time with W-Item, which opens it up to a few rounds of serious attacks, as long as the tentacle fingers are inactive. Takes around 20-25 minutes. If you get knocked down, you have 5x final attack + Life2 opportunities to keep going, however every time you die, you lose haste and the effects of the hero drinks, so try not to die. I only died twice, and both were due to Ruby's tentacle counter attack followed by a shadow flare counter, which is why you want to be paralysing him when you attack, because he can kill you straight-up with that combo. High Luck from source farming means a lot of the magic attacks miss though, which is nice.
Emerald Weapon is a breeze at lvl. 99, I had a full set of tactics for it, but honestly I didn't even need most of those. I'd recommend having 5 to 10 Megalixirs, 10 Elixirs, and 10 X-Potions at least, although I didn't need that many. The key is just a counter attack materia on all three characters, and one with two. Two characters have Double-Slash too, and one has Enemy Skill to provide Big Guard. Give one character Final Attack + Phoenix too just in case, although I didn't need it. With this set-up, Emerald didn't even get a chance to use Aire Tam Storm. I killed it in about ten minutes, so Underwater materia isn't even important, but might be useful to use anyway just so you don't have a timer looming over you. My team was Cid lvl. 98, Yuffie lvl. 99, Cloud lvl. 96. Final limit breaks are a plus, too, Omnislash really took down the time it took to shit all over Emerald.
That's my non-KOTR/mime way of beating the Weapons, the hardest part is just committing a day or two to grinding materia up to master level and getting to lvl. 99 (which will happen anyway to get the materia where you want it to be). Smash the like, subscribe and share pls
