It's a heavy and very in-depth world Herbert delivers.

As you read it (if?), you'll see where other writers were influenced. eg Have you read any books from Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' series? He straight up borrowed his "Aiel" people from Herbert. Fierce dessert warriors with a strict social code and zealot-like belief system.
