It is weird. I always talked about Chicago itself and how parts of it are bad. I even said my neighborhood wasn't as bad, but has been growing worse.

Chicago is extremely high in crime. Doesn't mean every bit of the city is that way.

anyone from a u.s. city can say they live 4 city blocks from stabby alley, and irrc the same applies on your side of the pond. but don't expect a sympathy pat if someone 10 bocks away that you don't even know gets shanked.

Hell our latest thing was a few blocks away, people popped out of a van and shot a 73 yr old man. For no reason.
15 years ago this was a good neighborhood. I felt safe. I could walk around at night.
I can't anymore. I have had my garage robbed. I have had neighbors have gang signs spray painted on their garages.
I want to maintain a nice home so I can get a decent price when I sell it.
IMO it is very disrespectful to the lives lost to pretend like I live in some safe suburb.

Yep, here is the thing about Chicago, some places can be awesome. I love downtown. There are other areas where it is bad. I live on the south side. As you go increasingly south things get worse.
My father doesn't live with me, but he works in one of those increasingly bad neighborhoods. As I have said, there have been multiple shootings right outside his work. Cops have been wounded. I mean literally right outside, not a few blocks away.
