Green Day party night
ROCK gods GREEN DAY swapped their natural stadium home for an intimate 200-capacity venue in Berlin on Thursday — and I was the only UK journalist to see it.
The trio played the show to launch album 21st Century Breakdown.
And the crowd exploded in a frenzy as the rockers opened with the title track.
Frontman BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG looked effortlessly cool, drowned in enough black eyeliner to stock a Boots store.
Fans sang along religiously to Know Your Enemy as the pint-sized singer pogoed around stage.
The band also banged out classics American Idiot, She and Longview.
But the highlight was their rendition of Sixties track Stand By Me, by BEN E KING.
They played it while lying down in the foetal position, encouraging the crowd to do the same.
Drummer TRE COOL told me: “We expected everyone to be arty. But when we rocked up we realised they just wanted to party.”
You’d have to be a Basket Case not to love ’em.
