Sure, I agree: his acceptance of Islamic extremist groups is pathetic, and I really could never bring myself to vote for him (I hope, idk, we need the Tories out badly right now).

But Farage and Stephen Yaxley-Lennon are incredibly comfortable around racists, homophobes and general all-round bigots. Yet you seem to mostly be fine with them. What's the deal?

RE: The rise of right-wing populism, I have many opinions on that, but my main answer would be that modern society tends to veer between liberalism and authoritarianism at different stages, and right now, extremism is rife, on both sides. Socialism and pseudo-fascism are both getting quite popular, and it's just too strange and complex to fully disseminate for me without the need for several long-form conversations. It's fascinating, though.

Do you think immigration is playing a significant role?

KMC Leftists be like "Believe All Women, Immigrants Welcome, Punch a Fascist, oh but **** those unemployed disabled leeches"

This is why I refuse absolutely to take a side in this conflict: because the 'tolerant' left is fine with using bigotry when it suits them. I don't trust any of them, not even as far as I could throw them, and I'm weak as **** so that isn't very far

I trust you Screet

It depends. In the UK, I'd say people see it as 'immigration' when actually it's more a case of integration; our government takes in a fairly reasonable amount of immigrants, but does little to integrate most of them, leading to the classic (and natural) 'fear of the Other'.

In other parts of Europe — Germany, Sweden — yeah, I'd say the shortsighted 'compassion' of the left-wing governments and their immigration policies (with absolute lack of integration highlighted, due to their belief in 'multiculturalism'😉 have helped to spur on far-right racism in the political sphere. When you call everyone who is anti-immigration or at least skeptical of high amounts of immigration a racist, then you push them away — and they end up voting for the actual racists.
