Yes they are and some like power cuts easily solved in the third world. However most grids in Africa are hilariously bad and private suppliers corrupt. I did see a main 3 phase set of fuses changed at a step down transformer changed live with a screwdriver alone once... Terrifying tbh.

I reread Lovecraft recently, it was more meh than I remembered. They have the complete Lovecraft cheap on Kindle.
