I can potentially help you out with this. There is a great series called "American Experience" that has been on the air for over 30 years that airs documentaries on a variety of important and interesting things regarding American history. A few of the episodes have been uploaded to youtube by fans.
Here is one of my favorite ones, it's about the hysteria surrounding Orson Welles "War of the Worlds" broadcast.

There is one about a family that walks on all fours lol. There is another from 1989 called "Child of Rage" that is about a little girl who was sexually abused and wanted to kill her brother and adoptive parents.
