Scrib check this out:
U.K. Health Service to Deny Treatment to Patients Deemed Racist or Sexist
To be fair you get a "yellow card" for your first offense and are only denied treatment if you offend again and get a "red card".
But still...what's going on in ur country gurl?!
Originally posted by SurturI really don't know what to think of this. On one hand, hospital staff being harassed or abused does need to be stopped and addressed. But is this really how to do it?

There are a lot of foreign-born members of NHS staff and some patients have been known to complain directly if they have a black or otherwise non-white doctor. What do you do with those people? I'd just say treat them anyway because it's meant to be a National Health Service and anyone should be able to access it, but if they're consistently being rude to non-white staff etc. then idk, you need to draw the line somewhere

My thing is we live in an era where the terms "racist" and "sexist" are abused.
I mean look at one example:
"In a highly publicized case from 2017, a female NHS patient complained when she requested a female nurse to carry out a cervical smear only for the hospital to send a person with “an obviously male appearance … close-cropped hair, a male facial appearance and voice, large number of tattoos and facial stubble.”
^Some might view this as sexist.
Originally posted by SurturYeah, that's why I tend to err on the side of non-authoritarianism to stop this kind of politicisation from occurring. Things would be easier to take a stance on if people weren't ****ing idiots constantly

Originally posted by SurturI mean there's a fair chance the person they sent really did feel that they were a woman, and so to them they didn't see themselves as posing a threat to the patient, but at the end of the day it's about the patient's comfort and sense of safety, so if you're trans who doesn't pass very well then you need to understand that women are not just going to accept you on your word
But seriously a female patient requests another female do a cervical smear and they send out a dude.Doesn't a cervical smear involve instruments being inserted into the vagina?

I would wager that the woman didn't feel a male doctor was a "threat" she just felt more comfy with a woman poking around her pussy lol. It doesn't mean she thought a male doctor would violate her.
Tbh I would have started living more trans by now but since my facial hair doesn't really fully go away when I shave I don't see the point. I don't care about expressing my identity unless I actually pass. You can't just say yo I'm a woman now and expect average people to just be like ok cool despite the fact you still look like a straight-up man

I get the issue, but come on, how awesome would that be if jazzhands replaced clapping. It would be 10/10 awesome
edit: Wait, spiritfingers would be better, let's do that
Originally posted by SurturI mean, yeah. She wanted someone born with a vagina to perform the test, so it's fair enough. Plenty of male doctors do gynecological work, but this is the patient's choice.

How do you feel about a patient asking for a white female doctor for the same test tho, instead of a non-white woman? This line is something that I occasionally grapple with. If it's just about choice, can you choose to be racist?
