Yeah, I guess I could see that.

idk, for me it's gratifying for about ten minutes, an hour, maybe even a day, then the feeling goes, and only the creative itch is left. In all honesty, I hate it. I am proud of many things I've created, but not in any meaningful way, as there are countless other people just as creative around the world, many of whom are better.

I'd rather be happy doing crosswords, maths problems, etc.

Yeah, my itch to create would be more in engineering although I do enjoy drawing. I just put it on the back burner as I'm not good enough to profit off of it.

People may say I’m too empathetic

How so?

I've had to train empathy out of myself, been let down, ****ed over and betrayed too many times by now

I can't think of a single good thing that empathy has done for me tbh, but that's just me

I think engineering is definitely a more satisfying form of creativity, creating something with a distinct and useful function is much more measurable than like, writing, or music

I'm no expert, believe me, but I thought the point of empathy was done for others. It's a selfless act no?

I'm sure someone has appreciated the care you had for them, unfortunately, the appreciation didn't come from the people you cared for most.

I agree, but I think it's because I think of the rationality of it.

Oh, people tell me that I'm generally pretty great at getting through to people, calming people down, giving perspective on situations, etc. But it's done more harm to me than good, so I resent it, as I don't see why other people's happiness should come at the expense of my own.

Since freeing myself of a lot of my empathy, I'm no longer depressed, and generally a lot happier with my position in life. I reserve my empathy for people who deserve it.

Absolutely. You should not have to hurt your self to help others.

Definitely, logic is inherently satisfying, I think. Engineering is like combining pure creativity with puzzle-solving — even if what you've created is entirely new, it always had the potential to exist, you've just given it life.

It also has a distinct end-point: when the invention functions correctly and does what it needs to. As opposed to say, a novel, which is never really finished, the artist just has to at some point accept its current form and claim it to be 'done'.

The positive is that both leave room for eternal improvement. You can always enhance and progress.

Engineering does seem to have an more obvious tangible use though. If you created something useful it will be obvious and rewarded. Art and literature are just a lot more subjective.

I think he is funny. I have enjoyed his comedy specials. The Invention of Lying was entertaining as well.

Honestly, unless you've already made a career for yourself, pursuing creative passions in this day and age is a sucker's game. For the most part, true creativity will go unrecognised, whilst crap will be venerated.

Following technological progress is really where it's at right now, there's so much room for innovation and genuine progress.
